The EU blacklisted Russia's largest banks

The new list of 48 officials and nine organizations to be blacklisted, prepared by the EU Foreign Affairs Service, also includes the leaders of the Night Wolves motorcycle club, actors, politicians, the deputy head of the Russian security service, family members of oligarchs who have fallen under sanctions, and the military.
The addition of Sberbank to the blacklist will lead to the freezing of its assets in the West and the complete prevention of transactions, with the exception of financial transactions in the trade of food and fertilizers, an EU representative told Reuters.
The largest Russian lender has already been excluded from the SWIFT banking messaging system, which seriously hindered its ability to conduct business.
The head of the zinc and copper giant UMMC, Andrey Kozitsyn, is blacklisted because it is believed that as a leading Russian businessman he is "involved in economic sectors that provide a significant source of income for the government," the document says.
This step, which is expected to be adopted on Wednesday, will increase the total number of individuals included in the EU list in connection with the war in Ukraine to 1,229, and the number of companies included in the list will increase to 110.
